Chip seal is a highly economical surface treatment designed to protect and prolong the life of pavements (suggested lifespan of 7-15 yrs). In a single chip seal, an asphalt binder is sprayed onto the pavement, then immediately covered by a single layer of uniformly sized aggregate. The new chip sealed surface is then rolled to seal the aggregate to the oil, broomed, fog sealed, striped and ready for traffic. Chip seal surfacing is a perfect tool for pavement preventive maintenance. Chip seal provides a quick, reliable and economical surface treatment that will seal out the damaging effect of water and help to increase skid resistance.
Custom Chip Seal
Keep New Mexico beautiful with a custom chip seal for your road, drive way, or walk way. A custom chip seal has more of the natural landscape look of New Mexico than the traditional black asphalt. It can enhance the architectural style of a home by adding a New Mexico style to the property, or resembling a country road. You can customize your chip seal by picking the desired color of aggregate: Santa Fe Brown, Violet, Mesa Red, traditional gray, etc.
A fog seal is a light application to an existing surface of a slow-setting asphalt emulsion diluted with water. Typically used to renew old asphalt surfaces that have become dry and brittle with age, it is also utilized to coat newly chip sealed surfaces. Coating the new chip seal surface eliminates dust, aids in retention of the newly applied rock, and helps to reduce tire noise on the coarse surface. A fog seal can add years to the life of a chip seal before additional treatment is required.
